Calvin McConnell
EDUCATION: I received my Bachelor's Degree with Honors in Creative Writing with minor degrees in Art and Italian as well as my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Denver in 2013.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: I believe a strong foundation in edge work is essential for all skaters, both figure and hockey. I also believe that though skating is a lot of work and there will be tough days, it should always be motivated by love of the sport and having fun. I believe in setting goals and celebrating small wins that lead to amazing accomplishments. And no matter who my student is, I believe they are capable of incredible things on the ice with hard work.
SKATING BACKGROUND: After attending the Winter Wishes Ice Show in 2003, I began my Learn to Skate journey. I loved performing in both Winter Wishes 2004 and 2005, then went off to college where I skated one year on the collegiate team before taking a break to pursue other sports like Taekwondo. I returned to the ice years later as an adult and have been skating ever since.
SKATING DISCIPLINE(S) TAUGHT: I currently coach basic skills for both figure skating and hockey. I am able to coach students up through Preliminary tested in freestyle and skating skills in figure skating as well as beginner hockey skaters.
